A Stylist, A Healer

Chloé Spring Summer 2025 Show Backstage.

I recently extended my service to include Colour Therapy. In this new service, I combine the wisdom of Tarot cards and colour energy to help people identify their current issues. Then I advise them on multiple ways to wear and use colours to empower themselves and resolve the situation.

Styling and healing may look like two different domains. However, they naturally evolve and merge in my profession. The journey starts and evolves through each encounter with my clients, and is unexpectedly combined with the realisation from my yoga practice and teaching. Let me share a few stories below.

Beginning: My Empathy for Her Unlocks My Healing Potential

Helping this lady unlocks my healing potential! She sounded desperate and broken when she reached out to me. She went through a series of mishaps - being betrayed in her marriage after moving to a foreign country during pregnancy, in and out of courts for years for the divorce lawsuits, hoping to win the freedom to exit the country with her kids. Exhausted and embittered, she was looking forward to some advice to look beautiful again, so that she could put herself together to face her life challenges with courage.

I could have just given her some ideas for colours and makeup. However, feeling her true pain moved me deeply, and thus I decided to apply colour psychology to create specific dressing formulas for her situation.

Formula 1: Wearing Her Best Neutral Colours to Win the Jury's Heart

In Colour Analysis, I diagnosed this client as a Warm Dominant colour type, as her beautiful golden look (the combination of her ginger hair colour, warm skin tone, and green eyes) made a strong first impression. As winning the lawsuit was her priority, I needed to help her look lovable and at her best in front of the jury. To achieve this goal, I told her:

✨ Wearing qualitative clothes in her white and beige shades to the courts. Both white and beige convey the impression of purity and elegance. This colour combination can also make her look accessible and open-minded to win the jury's heart effortlessly!

✨The neutral green shades in her colour palette complement her warm look, making her peaceful yet energetic! She can wear these greens as a one-piece dress, or match them with white or beige in outfits to accentuate the calmness.

✨ Adding a piece of gold jewellery and a warm-tone lipstick will further elevate her look and make her more put-together.

Upon learning my personalised formula, she was surprised and thrilled. For the first time, she knew colours other than black were suitable for courts. Moreover, the vibe of these colours will naturally help her look elegant, calm, and glowing, which promises her a better chance to win the case!

In Colour Me Beautiful system, people with Warm dominant colouring show a strong golden look as their first impression. Once they know how to wear those warm shades in their colour palettes, they can easily project certain images and energy to achieve their goals in different life occasions.

Formula 2: Accent Colours to Empower Her and Make Her Happy

Aside from the court, she also expressed her wish to show her fun, creative, and happy side again around her beloved friends and family. I taught her that certain accent colours in her palette will help. For example, the oranges and yellows in her palette will help her convey her friendliness, creativity, and outgoing nature. Reds give her strength when her mood needs a boost. And wearing jewellery with vibrant green colour stones, such as Turquoise, Evergreen, Kelly Green, easily makes her shine.

Healing Starts From Seeing Our Own Vulnerabilities

This second client acted quietly and politely during the consultation. She expressed her gratitude to me at the end of the session for not judging her and for showing her how great she can be. She even told me that our consultation became an unexpectedly healing session for her.

The client looked like a high achiever in many aspects. Therefore, it surprised me to learn about her fear of being judged when arriving at our session. Yet when I looked back at our session, her frequent self-criticism and overly cautious responses to most of my questions seemed to reveal her vulnerability inside.

After seeing so many clients over the years, I noticed that we all have vulnerability inside regardless how successful and glamorous we look outside

The vulnerability- whether stemming from past trauma, insecurity, fear, or circumstance- shapes our behaviours. For example, a person with low self-esteem may act as a fastidious perfectionist under the fear of being judged. Someone with trust issues may become a control freak. This vulnerability also leads to our self-criticism, which reflects the insecurity not only in our current context but also about ourselves.

When people come to me for a makeover on their appearance, they are awakened for a change. However, not everyone has a clear picture of the root issue leading to her/his current situation, and how to cope with it. That is where Tarot cards are introduced in my Colour Therapy session. Tarot is an effective guiding tool to connect people with their inner selves and identify their key issues, in the current moment and for the long term. Only when the issue is uncovered can we design concrete colour solutions for their specific contexts.

Tarot cards connect with our subconscious mind. It helps our self-reflection, mirrors our inner emotions, hidden fears, and untapped wisdom. I love using Tarot cards to help clients quickly clarify the current situation and identify their immediate needs.

Colours Stimulate From the Inside and Influence Our Performance

Colours not only embellish our appearance. The colours we choose to wear and the way we combine colours also reveal our inner needs. Once we understand the psychological meaning and energy of colour, it can become our strategic tool to project a certain image and attitude, enhance particular emotions and strengths.

Extensive research shows that colours facilitate our emotions, which affects our preference. Moreover, colours also stimulate our physiological parameters and further influence our performance. Brands choose their logo colours with purpose. It often shows their companies' values and mission.

When I feel weak, red is the colour I would go for to empower myself. A touch of red colour can not only enhance my personal statement on appearance, but also make me feel confident while breathing in the colour's energy.

Moreover, colours have a strong correlation with our well-being. In yoga theory, the human body has seven chakras- energy centers- that represent different physical and emotional aspects. Each chakra links to a specific colour. The imbalance between chakras causes specific physical and mental issues. In this system, colours are used in therapy, for example, for visualisation during meditation, in dietary choices, and on the appearance as clothing or accessories, to rebalance energy and promote well-being.
